Mom's fall from the couch was because she was in the dark, couldn't see what she was doing, and missed the chair. She told me that she now keeps a flashlight with her so she can see when she is moving. No falls since.
Mom and Dad have decided to sell the truck. Scott is going to take some pictures and put it up on KSL.com, if anyone is interested.
Tonight (Sunday) Deborah and I went out to play cards, but Scott and Nancy and their family were there, so we had a nice visit. Scott and Tyler put the cover on the swamp cooler because it had been banging and keeping Mom and Dad awake. After they left, Deborah and I stayed for a few more minutes to visit. Mom and Dad seemed tired and didn't even suggest that we start a game of cards.
That is all the news for now.
What happens when you have to start caring for those that always cared for you!

Is it November already?
Lisa had her babies last night! She had twin boys, Joel and Ethan. They were born early so both babies are in NICU. Lisa is doing fine and the boys are doing as expected. When I called Mom to let her know, Mom told me that she fell again. Last week she slipped to the floor in the middle of the night when she was moving from her chair to the couch. Dad had to call 911 to help her up. Last night, she fell from her chair. Mom told me that she fell on her face and scraped her face and nose and cut her lip. I don't quite know what to do for them at this point.
Otherwise, everything has been going as usual. I clean once a week most weeks. I did have to miss once because I was out of town for work. And I go out on Sundays and either visit or play cards (depending on if anyone else can go with me). Mom and Dad both came to our house on October 9th to celebrate Megan's and Jeff's birthdays. We had cake and ice cream and visited.
I am going out tomorrow to clean house and will check and see how Mom is doing.

It has been a busy summer....
Today is Labor Day. My last post was the end of June, that should let you know that there as been nothing new or that a lot has been happening!
I will try to catch up as well as my memory will allow. I have may calendar next to me and I will try to fill in the days of summer!
The first couple of weeks of July were the usual - I went out on Saturday (or Friday if I had to work on Saturday) to clean house and then on Sunday to play cards or visit. I am going out more by myself on Sundays, the other kids are getting busy and can't always go with. If I go alone, we can't play cards because you need an even number of people to play hand and foot.
July 16th was Draper Town Days and the week before Bill and Morgan's wedding. I had a lot that I wanted to get done that day. The week before there was a large group who went and cleaned up and trimmed the yard in preparation for the big day. Thanks to Bill and Morgan, the Hicks family and everyone else who helped. On the 16th, Becky and Tony stopped by while I was there. Tony helped to get Dad's truck moved out of the driveway so it would be easier for guests to get to the back yard for the wedding and reception. He had to jump start the truck because the battery was dead.
(I talked to Dad yesterday about moving the truck back under the carport after Carli's wedding this coming Saturday. They want to leave it where it is, so I am going to take out some plastic to cover the window that doesn't work so that it can survive the winter.)
Bill and Morgan's wedding was wonderful! It was in there backyard and it didn't rain or anything. Thanks for letting us use your yard Mom and Dad! Here is a picture:

The first week of August was very exciting for everyone! It was the Petty Family Reunion. We have a reunion every three years. We started the year of Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary. This is the third reunion, and the first to be held in Draper.
There were lots of people and activities happening through the week. On the first day, we visited with family as the came into town and ordered pizza for dinner.
Day 2 we went to Thanksgiving Point to the Dinosaur Museum and the Discovery Garden. Then we went back to Draper for Dutch Oven dinner. Mom and Dad went to the museum, then headed home for the afternoon.
Day three we all headed to Kennecott Copper Mine in the morning, then to Antelope Island and swimming in the Great Salt Lake in the afternoon. Then gathered in Draper for the traditional hot dog roast! Mom and Dad stayed home during the day, and joined us for dinner.
Here is a picture of Mom and Dad with their five kids, and a picture of the entire group that was the reunion on Friday night.

Day Four was an everyone-do-your-own-thing day. Mom and Dad stayed home. The group that I went with went shopping, to Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, to Applebee's, then to a play at the Conference Center.
Day Five was at Grandma and Grandpa's house all day. We had water play for the kids and visiting for the grownups. Then there was a bbq and pictures in the evening.
On Day Six, most everyone went home. However, a few hung at in Draper with Mom and Dad for a final visit.
Here is a picture of Mom and Dad with their five kids, and a picture of the entire group that was the reunion on Friday night.
And Mom and Dad!
Well, that gets us through to the point where I am only now one month behind.
The next Saturday, August 12th was another wedding for another grandchild. This time it was Joshua. They got married in the Jordan River Temple. Lisa and I met Mom and Dad there so that we could help them as needed. I am very happy that they were feeling up to going to the ceremony!
The next three weeks there is really no excuse for not posting. I did miss cleaning house one week because I had to work on Friday and Saturday. I have gone out every Sunday to visit or play cards. I always take one or two of the grandkids with me when I clean, it helps to keep Grandpa occupied while I am working (then he doesn't worry so much about what I am doing).
Yesterday Mom told me that Becky and Tony took them out to dinner on Saturday night and then brought them some lunch on their way out of town on Sunday. Thanks Becky!
Thanks to everyone for the help and the great family reunion!

Hooray!
Morgan went with me to Draper yesterday and helped me clean the house! Thanks Morgan!
When we were getting ready to leave, Mom asked me if I could come sometime other than between 10:30 and 12:30 on Fridays, because she wants to go to the Senior Center. Hooray! She didn't want to go before and now she does. I am going to go on Saturdays, unless I am working, then I will go on Friday afternoon.

I forgot...
I forgot to post that Mom and Dad came to Morgan's bridal shower on Saturday afternoon. I don't have a picture of Dad, who was the only man at the shower (he is confident with his masculinity), but here is one of Mom.

Three weeks....
I just typed a whole post and then lost it. Life is hard sometimes. Now I get to type the three weeks again...I hope it doesn't get lost!
First week: I didn't go out on Friday because I had to work Friday and Saturday, I made arrangements with Mom to come on Monday instead. I also didn't go out on Sunday because there was no one who could go with me to play cards, and I was going out the next morning. I did talk to Mom on the phone.
On Monday, Mom also updated me on the pain clinic visits. She only has a couple of appointments left. While the pain isn't gone, she told me that it has gone from an 8 (on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being no pain and 10 being unbearable) to a 3. I think that is very good!
Second Week: Went on Friday and cleaned the house. Dad asked me to help him move the new Jazzy from the carport. The wheels were locked and it wasn't working at all. Mom had called the company to come and get it and pick it up to be fixed. It had just stopped working except for going up and down. It does work now but I am glad that they had kept the old Jazzy around to use while it was in the shop.
On Sunday, Bill and Morgan went with me to play cards. Dad and Bill won. sigh.
Third Week: Amy went down on Friday (I had to work again) to help Mom get ready for the carpet cleaners. They were coming in the early afternoon. Amy moved furniture and vacuumed and did all that Mom told her to. Thank you Amy!
Deborah and I went out on Sunday, Father's Day. Dad had already heard from Reed, Kaylene, and Becky. Mom guessed that Nancy had to work. Mom and I won at cards. I know it was Father's Day, but no mercy!
I will try to get back to my weekly updates. I just have to be sure to write as soon as I remember and not wait.

Memorial Day Weekend
Hi There!
I didn't realize that I haven't posted for two weeks...I will try to catch up. Two weeks ago, Jane went with me to Draper. I had to work on Friday, so we went out on Saturday. Mom told me that they had gone to a cousins lunch on Friday. We cleaned and ate lunch and left. It was a normal trip. Did I ever tell you that I love normal trips to Draper?
We didn't go out on Sunday because there was a graduation party for Morgan (Bill's fiance). Mom and Dad were invited to the luncheon but they didn't come. I am not sure why.
This week, Dalton went with me for the trip on Friday. When we got there, Mom was asleep. I went in to the bedroom and woke her up. I was a little concerned because she doesn't normally sleep that time of day. But, she got up not too long after we got there and seemed as good as usual!
On Sunday, Bill and Morgan went with me to play cards. Mom didn't play, she was watching tv. Morgan and I won by less than 200 points. It was a close game.
Nancy - the lawn looked good. Thanks for what you and your family do!
Loves,
Karrie

Visiting Teachers
Friday I took Dalton and Nicole with me to Mom and Dad's. Lisa had her first ob appointment, she is pregnant.
When we got there, Mom's visiting teachers were there. I was introduced and sat and visited with them for a couple of minutes, then started cleaning the kitchen so that they could visit. They left after about 30 minutes. After which Mom told me that one of her visiting teachers is President Monson's cousin. Unforturnately, I can't remember her name.
I wasn't able to clean the bathrooms as usual because of Nicole. She really is too young to take out there with me unless it is an unusual circumstance. The exciting news from the doctor appointment is that, Lisa is having twins! WooHoo!
I called Mom on Saturday and let her know that we wouldn't be going out on Sunday evening. Jeff's Mom and stepdad were in town from Washington and came by our house Sunday night. That means that we haven't played hand and foot for a month. I am going through withdrawal!

Mother's Day Weekend
Hi y'all!
Dalton went with me to Draper on Friday last week. We had a good time, cleaning and visiting. The most surprising thing was that I think Spring has finally came to Salt Lake Valley. Which, leads to the account that Nancy posted on facebook that she had talked to Mom. Mom told her that Dad had fallen when he was trying to trim the rose bushes. He fell and then couldn't get up without scooting and a lot of effort. I was concerned because I didn't know why Dad could not get up.
When I was there on Sunday (Mother's Day) Mom explained that he had fallen in a place where there was nothing to grab hold of (except rose bushes) that he could pull himself up with. He had to scoot over closer to the porch so he could get hold of the rail to help himself up. I could see how that could happen, so I am not as concerned now.
On Mother's Day I was able to get most of my family to go out and visit for the holiday. Jeff, Michael, Deborah, Bill, Morgan, Lisa, Christian, Dalton and Nicole all went to Draper with me. We had a very nice time just sitting and visiting for a while. Mom seemed very happy and Dad recorded the event in his journal!
Loves to all of you,
Karrie

Life is good!
Jane and I went to Draper on Saturday this week, since I went to Women's Conference at BYU on Thursday and Friday. About the only noticeable difference was that traffic was not as bad because the construction workers had the day off!
Their neighbor, Jeannie, stopped by to say hi while I was there. We talked for a little while outside just before I left. I thanked her for taking in breakfast (she does that three days a week). She also mentioned that Dad has called her a couple of times when Mom had fallen and he couldn't get her up. I don't think that has happened for quite a while.
Today I went out by myself just for a visit. We did have a nice visit. Aunt Nola, Grandpa's youngest sister, passed away on Saturday night. Mom is still going to the pain doctor two times a week. I asked her how it was going, she said that she thinks it is helping, she is only taking about half the amount of pain medication as she used to. I have noticed that they have been out and about a lot more than usual lately - Jeannie said that they have even gone to church. That is very cool! I know that last week they went to a funeral on Friday, the Easter Egg Hunt and Barbecue on Saturday, and to my house for dinner on Sunday. That would not have happened a few months ago.
All in all, it has been a very nice weekend!

Easter Egg Hunt and Barbecue
Today was the annual Baker family Easter Egg Hunt and Barbecue. I got there with Jeff and Michael at about 11:45, Mom and Dad showed up about 20 minutes later. They ate lunch and hung around until after the hunt. Mom looked very cute in her white jacket with a hood. I think they had fun!
Mom said that they will let me know tomorrow if they are coming to Easter Dinner with the family or not.

Easter Weekend
Hi Y'all,
I went down to Mom and Dad's this morning, as usual. Jane went with me. Mom and Dad were all dressed up and left at about 11:00 to go to Aunt Verla's funeral. Aunt Verla is Grandma Baker's younger sister. So, she is my great aunt, and Jane's great-great-great aunt.
Jane and I stayed behind and cleaned up the house. It gave me a chance to clean out their refrigerator. It actually was in pretty good shape. I only threw out some vegies from the bottom drawer that were in pretty sad shape and wiped everything down. I was also able to vacuum around their chairs while they were gone.
They are planning on coming to the Easter Egg Hunt and Barbecue tomorrow at the park. I have also invited them to dinner at my house on Sunday evening. I think they are planning on coming because Mom asked what she needed to bring. I hope that they can make it!
I hope you all have a fun weekend! Remember years ago when we used to go camping up Butterfield Canyon on Easter weekend? That was a long time ago....

It is April, and it is still snowing....
Hi Everyone,
Sorry about not posting last week. It was a nice visit on Friday, Dalton went with me. He was a little nervous and mostly stayed by me, but I think he will get used to going if he goes more often. He and Jane are going to take turns from now one. Dalton, however, did get to come two weeks in a row, Jane is in Moab with her family today. Here is a picture of Dalton. He is sitting in Mom's old Jazzy playing music for us!

WooHoo! I figured out how to post the picture! Today, Mom seemed a little more tired and not all that excited to see us. But she was awake and ate lunch that I fixed and talked with Dalton a bit. She was a little short with Dad. I think she might have been hurting.
Last Sunday Bill and Morgan went down with me to play cards. Mom sat out of the game, Bill and Dad won. I was not happy to lose. I really like to win, at everything, go figure.
I washed the inside of the front window. I think that some residue was on there from when Dad built a fire in wood stove. It was much better when I was done. When the weather clears up I will try to clean the outside and get the screens put back in.

Second Post Today - WooHoo!
Hi Everyone!
After my post this morning, Laura dropped off Jane for our trip to Draper. After I got Jane loaded in the car, she wanted Dalton to go with, so I called Lisa and we picked up Dalton. We all went to Einstein's, as usual, and picked up our breakfast. Dalton got to see his aunt (Christian's sister, Trisha) who works there. There we drove to Draper, with our usual stop at the store for lunch ingredients.
When we got to Mom and Dad's, it was pretty ob vious that they hadn't been doing much yet today. I was a little concerned because Mom didn't seem as responsive as usual, but after about 20 minutes she had moved to her Jazzy and was in the kitchen while I was cleaning. The rest of the morning was normal. I wasn't able to stay and visit because I had an appointment with Bill at the University, so we all left at 11:30.
The most memorable thing is that Dad show likes to keep the house VERY warm. It was nice to go out into the snow (yes, it was snowing) to head home.

Last Week
It is now Friday morning, 7:54 a.m. I will be leaving in about an hour to go pick up Jane and go to Draper. I just realized that I never posted last week, so here I am now!
I took Jane and her little sister, Megan, with me last week. Chris and Laura went on a long weekend vacation without the kids for their birthdays, so I had both of them until after church on Sunday. It wasn't really very easy having Megan in Draper with me, she is still too little to get a lot of work done efficiently. Mom kept telling Dad "watch her" or "get her". She would climb behind the wood stove and Dad would have to go around and get her. So, today, only Jane is coming with me.
On Sunday, Deborah and I went and played cards. We only had time to play three hands because Deborah had to be back by 7:00 for something (I think it was a fireside). We also made the bed for them, Dad had washed the sheets before we went out. He has a hard time making the bed himself the way Mom wants it done.
I will write again after this week's trip. I am anticipating another normal Friday!

Haircut and Chicken Soup
Hi y'all!
This weekend was pretty much the same as always for the trips to Draper. Jane and I went together, they all watched Mickey Mouse while I straightened up. I did, however, also cut Dad's hair. I buzz it for him whenever Mom tells him that he needs a haircut. I did notice that he has a sore, about the size of a nickel, on his neck on the left side a little behind and below his ear. He didn't seem to know how he got it. When I mentioned it, Mom said that she has been trying to get him to go to the doctor to get it checked out. I don't remember seeing it last time I cut his hair, and it appeared to be healing and didn't seem to be infected at all. So, I will see how it looks next time I cut his hair. If it is not getting any better, then I will push the doctor visit.
As you know, I cook lunch for them on Fridays, and then on Sunday I take out whatever I made for dinner for them to have when they want. (They have usually already ate dinner by the time I get there.) When I go back on Friday, sometimes the container is empty and cleaned out, sometimes it is on the counter and still needs to be cleaned, and sometimes it is still in the fridge. If it is still in the fridge, I usually decide to either leave it for a couple of a more days (depending on what it is and if it will keep), or I dump it out and clean the container to take home. I really don't care if they eat it or not, I just want them to have options.
Last Sunday I took out some homemade chicken noodle soup. They hadn't eaten it, and I hadn't cleaned out the container yet. I came to the kitchen and was getting the broom to clean the floor, when Dad came in through the back door. He had the empty container in his hand. I know that Mom probably told him to dump it out while I was cleaning the bathrooms so that I would think they had eaten it. He told me how good it was! I felt bad for catching him when they were trying to not hurt my feelings. I just pretended like I didn't know what he was doing so I wouldn't hurt his feelings! We are all so protective!
Sunday, no one was available to go with me to play cards, so I just drove down for a visit. We talked about Bill and Morgan's wedding (they want to get married in the back yard), the family reunion, and Aunt Bonnie (they were having a birthday party for her in their back yard). I took out some rice with green peppers and hamburger casserole thingy. We will see if it is still there on Friday!

Since I didn't post last week, I have copied and pasted the update from facebook. Thanks Nancy!
Hi Kids,
I went and visited Mom & Dad today. Mom is doing so good, when getting from her jazzy to her chair she actually applied weight to her legs and almost stood up. She got a perm yesterday and looked great. Dad was happy and in good spirits too. We took down their Christmas lights which mad Dad happy. Before we left Mom told Dad to give us the big jar of mixed nuts, Dad asked which was the big one, that started a discussion I didnt want to hear so I quickly changed the subject. They were getting tired. All in all it was a great visit, they both looked good.
Love ya, Nancy

Did you know that it has been over six months since they have called 911? After three calls last summer I think that is wonderful! They were doing pretty good when I was there on Friday. On Sunday, Mom wanted to play an extra round of hand and foot, which was wonderful because the game had already gone longer than usual. She also demonstrated her new Jazzy for Deborah. I was also out there on Tuesday morning dropping off some Kirkland drink to them. Thanks for taking care of all the outside stuff Nancy! I am exctied for the reunion this summer!

Happy President's Day!
Yesterday I went to Draper by myself. There was no one else that could go with me, which in and of itself is not a problem. The negative consequence is that we couldn't play cards. You need an even number of people to play hand and foot, so it was time for a plain old visit.
Mom and Dad were doing good. They had gone to Payson on Saturday to see Aunt Rita, who had just had hip surgery. Aunt Rita was doing well and was supposed to be released yesterday or today to go to a rehab center for a couple of weeks.
That's all folks!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Okay, I know it is after Valentine's Day and I missed last week. I thought about it several times, but never when I was sitting at the computer. So, this week, instead of waiting until after our Sunday night visit, I am writing after our Friday morning visit so that I don't forget.
Last Friday when Jane and I got there, the first thing we noticed was Grandma's new Jazzy. It is beautiful! Mom demonstrated it for us - it is very cool. She can raise it up and lay back. It will also let her move her legs to different positions. The Cadillac of Jazzy's! Cool!
Sunday, Bill and Morgan went with me to play cards. Because we had an odd number of people, Mom sat out. I always try to have an even number so she plays, but Bill and Morgan didn't really want to go by themselves. sigh.
I took out some spaghetti the week before last, and potato casserole last Sunday for Mom and Dad. Both of them were still in the fridge when I went out today. I threw out the spaghetti, but left the casserole in case they want it this week.
Jane is being potty trained. She is doing pretty good, even when she is with me. I promised her a big jar of pickles when she masters the toilet!
When we got there today, Mom and Dad were not there. I was surprised at first because their car was in the driveway. They left a note telling me that they went to a viewing at the church (their neighbor had passed away). So, I started cleaning. They came home about 25 minutes after I got there, Mom in her Jazzy and Dad walking, not quite keeping up.
The rest of the day was normal. Life is good!

Sunday Church and Cards
Laura went with me to play cards with Mom and Dad. We took down some spaghetti for them have for dinner sometime. I did ask Mom if she likes spaghetti. She said that she does sometimes and Dad always does. She also pointed out that she used to make it only because Nancy loved it. I always knew that Nancy was the spoiled one.
Mom also said that her and Dad both got all dressed up and went to church for Sacrament Meeting for the first time in six months, only to find out that no one was there today. It must have been Stake Conference. So they came back home.
They were not watching the Super Bowl at all, just a movie on cable, Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Mom and I won at cards again. Hooray for us!

Laser Treatments
Jane and I went to Draper today. Jane is being potty-trained and so it was the first day she has gone with me with no diaper! She did good, no accidents. Hooray!
When we got to Draper, Mom and Dad weren't there. Mom was at a doctor appointment with a new doctor who is doing laser treatments to hopefully stop the pain. Mom said that she will have 25 treatments, three a week for two weeks, then twice a week after that. Today was her second day. After her first treatment her ciatic nerve was hurting pretty bad, so she took a Lortab when she got home, but then didn't need another one until early this morning. That is better than usual. She was in pretty good spirits when they got home, better than usual when they have gone out. She didn't seem tired and sat and visited with Jane for a while.

Dalton's Birthday
We didn't go out to Grandma and Grandpa's on Sunday night because it was Dalton's planned birthday celebration. I did call and make sure all was well and to remind them that nobody was coming.
On Friday, Jane and I made our usual excursion to the house. Everything went well, Mom was lying down when we got there, but she got up shortly after we arrived. She has been in a lot of pain lately.
This week I am going over on Thursday (tomorrow) because I have to work on Friday and Saturday. When I called Mom to remind her, she told me that she has a doctor appointment at 9:00 so she might not be there when we get there. Other than that, it will be the regular routine!

Sorry I missed last week's update!
I just realized that I didn't post after last week's visit. We will have to go on the adage: no news is good news. I remember that we cleaned under Mom and Dad's chairs, vacuuming up all the crumbs (which means that they are eating well). I don't remember much else. Bill and Morgan went Sunday to play cards. Bill and Grandpa won.
This Friday, Jane and went and cleaned. When we got there, the home health nurse was there and her and Mom were batting a balloon back and forth to each other. She mentioned that she was coming again on Tuesday. Mom told me that they have finally arranged for her to get a new Jazzy chair, one with a few more perks than the chair she has now, such as being able to lean back and raise her legs. Awesome! She should have it in a couple of weeks.
Deborah and I went out on Sunday. We played a rousing round of hand and foot - first, Mom and I won the first hand, after which Dad and Deborah took the lead by winning the next three hands in a row, then in an amazing comeback - the score is within 200 points and only one hand left to play. Then....wait for it.....Mom and I won! We pulled out a victory in the end! Hooray!
Life is good.

Happy Birthday Jane!
Friday was Jane's birthday and she graciously agreed to go with me to Grandma and Grandpa's on her special day! We stopped, as usual, on the way to their house, we stopped at Einstein's and bought a bagel for breakfast. Lisa's sister-in-law (Christian's sister), Trish works at Einstein's and she gave Jane a balloon and a big sugar cookie!
When we got to Draper and walked in the door, Mom started singing happy birthday to Jane! It was overall a very good day for Jane. Grandma and Grandpa gave her a card with some Mickey Mouse crayons, then they all watched Mickey Mouse on demand together. Of course, Jane had to give each of them a Mickey (for Grandpa) and a Minnie (for Grandma) to rock to sleep while they were watching the show!
I cut Dad's hair for him while we were there. He tried to get Bill to do it last Sunday (Bill and Morgan went and played cards) but, believe it or not, Bill would not do it for him.
